The letter below was forwarded to me by a member of the Farmington Utah Stake. Scientism should not trump science, in the church or out.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Thank you for your faithfulness over the past year and a half. I am so grateful that we ar able to gather and worship together as entire wards.

We received a letter from the First Presidency several months ago urging us to wear masks in our public meetings where distancing is not possible. I've been very thankful for your faith in responding the the First Presidency request

The following instruction is an excerpt from that letter on August 12th of this year. “To limit exposure to these viruses, we urge the use of face masks in public meetings where social distancing is not possible.”

In a recent training meeting with our Area Seventy, we were informed that the Utah Area Presidency wants our area to continue following this direction. They would like is to wear masks in our Sunday meetings.

I am aware that there are many strong feelings on all sides of this issue. I don't want to push any away. I want all to continue to worship with us.

I would ask those who are willing to follow the direction given by the First Presidency and wear masks in our larger public meetings. Our stake will be blessed by doing what we've been urge to do by our Prophet and Counselors.

Thank you for your faith and goodness.

Sincerely,

President Robert M. Wilkes
