While visiting Seattle for my brother's joyous wedding, my father, sister, and brother-in-law, and I sought out a spot for a tasty lunch. We found Anthony's in downtown Seattle. The lower level is a walk-up fish and chips bar. The waterfront location is the perfect place to enjoy a seafood meal. We sat right on the dock to enjoy the food, the passing boats, the Seattle skyline, Mt. Rainier, and the warm spring weather.
I ordered a bread bowl of white clam chowder with a tub of poppy seed cole slaw. The cost of my meal was $6.65.
The chowder was very tasty and filling. The sourdough bread was fresh and tender. My brother-in-law ordered the red chowder and enjoyed it as well.
I don't like cole slaw. I see no point in trying to make raw cabbage taste good. But I ordered it because I do like poppy seeds and it's a specialty of the house. Surprisingly, I found it to be very good. Not overly-sweet like many slaws, and a bit tangy. I recommend it, particularly if you like cole slaw.
My dad ordered a shrimp salad. It wasn't bad, but I'd say take a pass on the salads. It was a carton of romaine with some shrimp thrown on top. Nothing to write home (or blog) about. And not worth the price.
They also serve an array of fish and chips and other seafood items that looked and smelled very good, but weren't quite in line with my intended calorie count.
The service left something to be desired. The storefront is entirely open, having large, glass garage doors that scroll up when they open. We arrived at 11:00 and waited for about seven or eight minutes, in plain view of the staff, before they opened up. Basically, they all pretended not to see us. When we ordered at the counter, the service was curt and non-responsive. Mostly the woman acted annoyed that we had any questions about the menu items or that we didn't quite understand their ordering system.
All things considered, I recommend Anthony's Fish Bar as an inexpensive, tasty place to grab a quick meal. The Fish Bar opens at 11:00 and serves lunch and dinner.
I’ve never been there, but I LOVE seafood. I do expect good service with my meals, though.
Once again, I am impressed with your self-discipline in considering the calorie count. Way to go, girl!
