Last night we had the best summer treats ever! Inspired by my favorite foodie blogger, Kristen from Dine and Dish, and her luscious Creamy Orange Milkshake, I ventured into the unknown by actually modifying someone else's successful recipe.
It's not that I haven't tried to do this before. I'm not bad at making regular recipes more healthy, but try to avoid anything more elaborate. Being such a numbskull in the kitchen, my modification attempts are rarely tasty…and sometimes inedible. Yesterday, however, I created a screaming food creation success story.
First I made the original. Yummy. Then I made my modified version. Amazing. I wish I'd taken pictures, but it was gone too quickly. Next time, I'll try to snag a photo before the family inhales them.
Here is my barely modded milk shake recipe for your enjoyment! It taste like those chocolate oranges you crack open at Christmas, only icy cold and slushy. Best milk shake I've ever tasted. Serious yummy chocolate orange goodness in a glass. It's healthier, too!
Ingredients
- 5 C fat free, no sugar added triple chocolate ice cream
- 1-1/2 C country style orange juice
- 1/3 C skim milk
- 1/3 C ice cubes
- 2 T orange zest
- 1 t vanilla extract
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in blender.
- Mix until well-blended and frothy.
Ohhhh! I love your modification. I’ve seen recioes that include OJ concentrate to up the intensity of the orange flavor. I live chocolate and orange together! Yum!
Thanks for the recipe. I will try and see, but everything that goes with oranges is usually very tasty and sunny.
Yum yum! I love Terry’s Chocolate Orange that I originally had in the UK, so this sounds like an easy fix. Do you know how many calories this shake is? Would you suggest this for those who want to lose weight?
This recipe sounds delicious. Do you know if any makers produce Orange Chocolate? If not, they need to! Not sure how this would play a part on my weight, but I would buy it!
Hi Alison, just wanted to say thanks for sharing the recipe. I tried it yesterday and it was awesome. So I came back to tell you how great it was!
Have a good day,
Anita
Anita, I’m so glad you tried it — and liked it! 🙂 Thanks for letting me know. Yum.
