A fabulously talented friend of mine, Keller Hawthorne, creates premium WordPress themes. She's asked me to test her newest theme on one of my sites. For the next couple of weeks Mormon Momma will be sporting the Fresh Journal theme.
If you have a constructive comment about the theme, please leave it here. Feedback about overall theme, as well as it's suitability for Mormon Momma, are welcome.

In this first comment, I’ll update any problems we find:
• Style Options save, but don’t update the site (even with hard refresh) — I’m still showing all black/grey/pink/white.
• Featured Post puts a feature box at the top of the home page with the correct number of links, but the links all go to the same page, so only one page is effectively featured in all the slots. This occurs when NO category is selected and it seems to pull a random post.
• Would like some kind of title option for this featured section so that it is clearly different from the NEW posts that show up right under it.
i find the colors to be very harsh. but it sounds like you tried to change them but it didn’t work?
I was going to say the same thing. The layout looks OK (if a bit boring) but the colors are jarring. Hope you can figure out how to change them!
The layout seems a little bland to me, while the contrast in colors is a little overpowering.
And “Mormon Momma” up at the top should be bigger, or in a different font maybe? Just something to make it stand out at the NAME of the blog.
sorry– AS the name of the blog
…And I just realized that I made the same observations as the others who commented. Guess I should have read the comments before posting!
On the positive side, I like the distinct structure – the boxes, outlines, etc. Looks more professional and organized to me–like all of us mormon mommas, right?
I’m not a big pink fan, and I’d like to see the site name more highlighted and stylized. But like I said, having a physical structure to the site is so kind to my a.d.d. brain.
Thank you so much for testing the theme Alison! If you wouldn’t mind, please send me a login for your backend so that I can figure out the settings issue.
Not sure if the problem is related to the test program/structure– but the forum link isn’t working. When I click on Forum, this is what I get
“Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class Gdn_Controller in /hermes/web01b/b1068/moo.mommamormoncom/mormonmomma.com/forum/library/core/class.controller.php on line 1539”
Tracy, I don’t know how a theme could muck up a code in the forum library, but it sure did work right before I changed the theme. :/
I was able to fix the forum problem. Not sure what caused it, but it’s good to go now. 🙂 Thanks for the heads up.
It doesn’t load properly in Google Chrome. I can only see part of the page. On the design end I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite, but then again I have so much respect for anyone who can make it work. I love to design but when I took a class on website design in college I had a hard time making everything work the way I wanted it too.
