I do not like spicy foods. To be clear, my husband says that my kind of mild salsa is just a bowl of diced tomatoes. Just about anything can put my mouth on fire.
In spite of all that, about 26 years ago (when we were dating) my husband introduced me to potato salad with hot sauce. I was sure I would hate it and run for the faucet. But I didn't. Surprisingly, the hot sauce did not make the salad fiery and inedible. Instead it gave all the various flavors a kind of punch. Every taste was enhanced and had extra zing.
Since 1985, I've never made potato salad a few dashes of hot sauce. Eggs and most pasta dishes are also good candidates. (Mac and cheese? Yes!) Go easy the first time and increase until the flavor is just right for you.
