After trying to get the sand out of our hair, Sam and I rented some movies for the kids and left them at the beach house to attend the temple. Since it had a cafeteria, we decided to check it out before our session.
Being accustomed to temple cafeterias in Utah, this one left us a bit underwhelmed. The choices were soup and…soup. OK, we chose soup. The offerings were Hawaiian wedding soup and bacon clam chowder. We both had the latter with a big slab of fresh wheat bread and water.
The lack of selection notwithstanding, the soup was really delicious and the cook/server/cashier was, as expected, about as nice as you could hope for. And the whole meal cost us only $4.30. Can't beat that deal.
The refrigerator also contained a selection of fruit and tossed salads, some beverages and yogurt, and a desert or two, at reasonable prices.
If you're famished, you'll want to go somewhere with, well, real dinners. But if you want a light meal, I highly recommend the soup.

Sounds like a great place when you’re in the mood for something light like, perhaps soup!
What else did you do while you were in Hawaii? Did you go to the Polynesian Cultural Center? Take any of the boat tours? Take the big trip around the Island (it takes all of what, a couple of hours!?!) It’s been years since we were there, but I remember it being a fun place to vacation!
LOL That post will come when I get it done. 🙂
So funny to see this post! In 1994, my girlfriends and I went to Hawaii – a last bash before I got married. We were all so cheap, the condo was a time-share donation from an employer and we ate the value meals at McDonald’s every day. The best meal I think I had was at the Hawaii temple cafeteria. We had a big plate of rice and a chicken-vegetable something over it. The best of all was it only cost us two or three dollars. It was such a great experience to be there. We mistakenly got off the bus one stop early and had to run in our heels to get into the last morning session. When we got there, the doors were locked, but someone saw us and let us in – and they started the session over so we could participate. (No, that’s never happened to me at the Jordan River Temple.) Later in the week we joked that we should take a bus back to the temple – so we could afford something decent to eat!
Great story! Thanks for the personal anecdote! And, boy, I wish they had had a rice, chicken thingy when I was there!
