I'm not much of a winter person. I want the snow to start falling the day after Thanksgiving and to stop—completely—on January 2. That's when spring should begin, steadily growing warmer and warmer.
Today, with the Lindon, Utah, temperature sitting squarely at 26 degrees fahrenheit, I'm fantasizing about our pool. The one we haven't installed, but have clearly marked on our plans and plumbed for in the backyard.
All the years we lived in Florida, I could not tolerate having a pool. With six kids spread out over 16 years, we always had a toddler. And I had nightmares about drowning. So in the three places we lived in Florida, one of the top criteria was no pools. And in south Florida, that isn't easy!
Even now, with my “baby” being eight years old and a moderately good swimmer, the first rule of pools is to have a high quality pool cover. It needs to seal out water and have a locking mechanism.
I may not have small children anymore, but some day I'll have grandkids. And they better be here…a lot! Our soon-to-be new neighbors have two little boys, as well. And pools look fascinating to little boys.
If you have a pool, please secure it. It can be the source of many, many hours of fun if properly cared for.

Hi Alison. To be honest, I wanted a pool for years but got scared to death since having small kids. Maybe as they get older. I will make sure and secure it. 🙂
Oh, I understand! For years I had nightmares (literal nightmares) about pools. Not coincidentally, they coincided with every time we looked for a new house to me to. Living in Florida, getting a home without a pool was actually a chore. But we did it. 🙂 Keep those little ones safe. 🙂
Sure that as soon as you get a pool you need to take care of the cover as for sure is the most essential thing to have for a pool when you have kids. Kids and safety come first!
As soon as you build a pool, the safety comes and not only when you have kids and even adults can be very careless and that’s why to have the pool covered is a need in fact.
