Flower BoxesSpring is here. Truly we didn't have much winter to begin with — certainly an oddity in Utah — but after a winter with 300 percent of the typical snowfall, a dry winter was welcome to most of us.

The city turned the water on this week and we're ready to begin getting the yard in shape. OK, not really ready for the yard work, but we truly love having “longer” days and spending time playing, partying, barbecuing, and just enjoying being outdoors.

I have a number of outdoor projects, but one that I'm considering is installing window boxes on the house.

Our front door is set back with a large porch. Next to it, is a section of the office area that is closer to the street. This protruding section of the house has two large windows. Because it's prominent and very visible, I think flower boxes would make a really nice addition. Not only would it look nice from the street, it would also add the the ambiance from within the rooms. Not only would they have a stunning view of Mount Timpanogos, but also a bed of flowers to frame it.

Take a fresh look at the front of your home. See if there's anywhere a windowbox would improve the curb appeal. They can add a beautiful, homey touch to many homes.
