Book Review: We Are Strong! Mothers and Daughters Stand Together by Fay A. Klingler

We Are StrongThis timely and extremely applicable book cuts through the noise of the mommy wars and speaks to women in a non-discriminatory uplifting way that I found refreshing and empowering. I found the wise examples of Ellis Reynolds Shipp and Camilla Eyring Kimball extremely valuable and especially enjoyed the following from Brigham Young:

If some women had the privilege of studying they would make as good mathematicians as any man. We believe that women are useful not only to sweep houses, wash dishes, and raise babies, but that they should study law…or physics…

Fay's frank yet nurturing syntax is apparent throughout. Her tone combined with pertinent anecdotal evidence directs the reader to inner contemplation and valuable self-assessment. The result of which can be influential in making changes that align perfectly with doctrine but are suited to each individual.

I have adopted the survey as part of my personal devotional time each day and appreciate the concise reminders of all that is of greatest consequence in my journey as a woman of Christ. Holding myself accountable in areas of eternal significance doesn't always come easily for me in this busy and often harried life I lead!

One chapter/idea I was particularly grateful for was physical safety. It is an area I am seriously lacking in awareness and ability to teach and train my daughters in. After reading and properly digesting this information, I feel I have what is needful to encourage my daughters to accept and protect their God given right to physical safety in this rapidly deteriorating world in which we live.

This book has been beneficial in my relationships with all of my children — regardless of gender — and I found very little fluff within its pages. I appreciated very much the candid depth and “down to business” pace that encouraged immediate steps to lighten my load.

Not just for mothers, this book can help all females strengthen themselves for the better, which in turn strengthens our sisterhood and builds Christ's kingdom. As women we are divine in nature, each with our own path. We need not worry about what others choose. We need only to be concerned with making ourselves the best we can be in order to offer our best in the service of our God.
