Book Review: Mormons: Tall Tales and Truths by Jenni Rose Maiava
Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith? Do you work in your church for free? Can Mormons dance?
These are just a few of the questions posed in this book by Jenni Rose Maiava. The author gives simple answers to each of these questions, sometimes with a personal anecdote to illustrate. Most chapters are just a few paragraphs long, which make for very quick and easy reading.Â
If you are looking for entertainment or are one who is interested in delving deep into our more fringe-y Mormon stuff, this is probably not the book you are looking for, as the questions and answers are pretty standard fare.
On the other hand, if you have non-member family or friends who might be interested in learning more without making a big investment of time, this is a great book for you. It’s a private way to ask questions that people probably wonder about but don’t dare ask. The answers are all available in other places, such as Mormon.org, but it is nice to have them in one place in small vignettes that you can read in a few minutes while waiting in the carpool line.
Hi. I’m book review editor for the Association for Mormon Letters. I’ve never heard of this title, and can’t find it on Amazon. Can you provide author or publisher contact info? Many thanks.
Jeffrey, it was sent to us a while back to review, but I can’t find it either.
Angie, can you check on the details on this book, if you have them?
