Saturday Sessions

Quorum of the “12” sustained with no prophet selected. (Not that it's a secret, but…)

Tracy Y. Browning

I love how she talks about the presence of the Spirit in the children's music. We should learn from this. Music does not have to be slogging like a funeral dirge in order to be reverent, spiritual, or appropriate worship music.

As we've been getting new music, I'm dismayed at some of the nonsensical complaints. The complaints are really just about lack of familiarity—and diversion from typical Victorian-esque music (that we seem to be stuck in, like the Amish and technology)—but so many frame it as objections to music that isn't respectful enough.

These people seem to forget hynns like:

  • Called to Serve
  • Hope of Israel
  • The Spirit of God
  • High On a Mountain Top
  • Hark, All Ye Nations!

I would hope we can be flexible enough to accept the new hymns (most of which are still very…similar to the others)—yes, even This Little Light of Mine (which begs for clapping and swaying!)—and see that the Spirit moves different people in different ways. Our way isn't the only way.

I'm still waiting for Ain't Got Time to Die and Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel. I hope the wait isn't forever.

Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Jesus Christ already did the superhuman part. Our part is to follow Christ.

Our efforts cannot make us celestial, but they can make us loyal and committed to Christ.

My note: Women cannot receive all the Father has unless is a Mother there who has it as well.

Sunday Morning Session

Jeffrey R. Holland

Vitriol toward Book of Mormon often matches the attitude toward the blind man.

I love the emphasis on refuting the supposed unholiness of the Savior by noting the FRUITS of his actions (healing the blind man). That has come up a lot this last week after the attack on the church in Michigan. People just in with THEY'RE NOT CHRISTIANS THO. And many NON-LDS drop in to say, “If you say so, but…um…they are certainly acting like Christians.”

SERVICE MISSIONARIES – shout out!

If teaching missionaries are the Lord's mouth, service missionaries are the Lord's hands.

LOVE THIS.

Spiritual erosion in our souls

I love the discussion of temperance. There is no scriptural “moderation in all things.” It's temperance, and they are distinct.

The Holy Spirit can help moderate our words and attitudes.

We're going to have a third female speaker in a minute. That has only happened a few times, so I'm grateful.

D. Todd Christofferson

Public opinion is not the arbiter of truth.

Andrea Muñoz Spannaus

OT story, unnamed woman of Shunem. I love that she brought in the story of a woman. I think because so few are named, we overlook their important stories. (There's a lesson in that…)

Henry B. Eyring

I'm proving you, but I'm also with you.

Consecrate your afflictions for your gain.

Spiritual power equal to every trial we are called to bear.

Redemption comes only from Jesus Christ

Dale G. Renlund

Honestly, I don't like the analogy between following President Nelson and following Christ. I think we need to steer clear of anything that can make it seem like we compare ourselves to Christ in such ways.

BYUtv keeps freezing on us. Anyone else?

John D. Amos

Louisiana represent. The accent is so good. I don't recall a southern accent from a GA before.

Ozani Farias

No new temples announced. Sam and I predicted this (or talked about it). The temple announcements seemed like a race, even though so many don't yet have land or plans or anything. This seems a prudent.

Sex only to be used between husband and wife.
