This is not my happy face.
After learning about our first construction delay due to a rental issue, we confirmed that the panels would be delivered on January 25. The plan was that the panel company would install the basement while teaching our builder the system, so that our builder could install the remaining floors.
This morning we learned that our builder forgot he is going on a tour. On January 25. For a week.
As far as I can tell, we have only a couple of options:
- We wait until the builder gets back. This is another week delay and that is assuming that the panel guy will actually still come up here to do the install and training on January 31—when he's being evicted on January 31.
- We forget the idea of having the builder install the other floors, have Sam supervise the basement install (with electrical issues, etc.), and then hire the panel company (instead of the builder and his crew) to do the remaining installs. Assuming they can/will do this when they don't even have a building for their business.
Whatever, that's looking like an entire month (of remarkably good weather) down the toilet. While we pay interest. And rent.
Like I said, this is not my happy face.

REALLY sorry to hear this latest setback. Wish I had some sort of wisdom to share about this issue….keep your chin up.
Thanks to you both. Excuse me while I beat my head against a footing.
Hey, Sarah, that IS the current pic. The basement is poured, but covered with tarp that is covered in snow. As they say, “Move along. Nothing to see here.” Hopefully that will change before I throw myself off a backhoe.
Barf. That stinks Alison. PS….You need a new side bar pic so we can see the site currently.
Didn’t you mean to write, “our builder ‘forgot’ he is going on a tour.”
It’s fun to keep up with the build. Look forward to seeing more progress.
Well, unexpected thing happens in life. We just have to accept it and find some alternatives where we could take advantage. 🙂
Well, Jack, it may have been a poor choice of words. I don’t think he really “forgot” he had a tour coming up. It’s likely been planned for some time. But when the problem with the panel delivery came up, he probably didn’t realize initially that the new delivery date coincided with his vacation. Brad has dealt with us honestly and I believe him to be of good character.
Yes, Walter. I wish there were something we could do — or something else to work on. But we’re just kind of waiting doing nothing. Thanks for your encouragement!
