100 Day Challenge: Focus on the Fundamentals

We've all heard the idiom “practice makes perfect.” But it's not true. Consider a violinist who practices an hour a day using a cello bow. She won't ever perfect violin playing that way and probably won't even perfect violin/cello-bow playing because the tools aren't designed to work together. Instead, she'll get really good at an awkward, somewhat musical jumble.

The truth is perfect practice makes perfect. If you want to master a skill, you need to have the wherewithal to make your practice move you toward the intended goal, not somewhere else.

Your performance will never exceed the quality of your practice.

Astonishingly obvious advice, but generally disregarded. And how do we improve the quality of our practice? By basing it on a strong foundation of timeless, universal, and pragmatic principles.

Today consider some fundamentals that can move you forward toward the life you want. Try to:

  1. Pay meticulous attention to details.
  2. Focus on delivering superior quality and service.
  3. Give your best and demonstrate excellence in every activity.
  4. Show gratitude and appreciation for everything in your life.

How could doing those things change your life for the better?
