Caleb (4): Mom, can I have some of your drink?
Mom (somewhat older than 4): No.
Caleb: Please?
Mom: No, honey.
Caleb: Puhleeeeeeeez?
Mom: No, Caleb.
Caleb: But why?
Mom: Because I have a cold and it's got my germs on it.
Caleb: But mom, you have to share. If you share ?I will love you more.
Well, since he put it so nicely… 😉
Every once in awhile my 4 year old will say, “Mom, are you sick?”. I know when she says that, she’s eyed my drink!!
well, gee Alison, how could you resist that????? Where, oh where do they come up with this stuff????
That boy is going to be a lawyer or a diplomat to a foreign country. . .or something. Kiss his forehead for me. This kills me! You have a 4 year-old son; I have a 3 year-old GRANDson.
It’s actually a pretty nice time in my parenting life. Difficult, but not currently in any major traumas or crises, which is such a blessing. Caleb is a wild man and just lights up our lives. He brings a lot of laughter into the house and his sisters are as bad as I am in being charmed to pieces. I worry about his dating years, but for now, we’re good. 🙂
Truth is, I’m that way about all my kids and really wish I had more of their things to journal–that’s how I remember them. But they tend to be either too private or just don’t translate well to text. My 7 yo, Samson, for example, is the sweetest little guy you’ll ever meet. Bright as a whip, generally really reserved. But his best moments are quiet ones.
It’s always a wonder to me, how kids born to the same parents with the same sort of upbringing could all be so different. As a parent, it is a pleasure to get to know them, who they already were before they came here. Your Samson sounds wonderful, too.
Thanks. You are so right. I don’t think my kids could be more different in personality as far as the scale of pretty darn good kids goes.
