One of our main goals with our custom home was to build a home that required minimum maintenance. Because roofs are a major expense — and a worn roof can cause extensive damage — we researched roofing alternatives extensively.
We looked at magnum boards, metal roofs, and other less common surfaces. When comparing the pros and cons of each (such as the fact that only the color is under warranty on metal roofs), we ended up choosing a standard shingle installation.
We choose the Tamko Heritage 50 laminated asphalt shingle in Rustic Cedar (from the Classic Heritage Colors collection). We wanted a roof that was a bit lighter, both for aesthetics and to reflect more sunlight. These shingles come with a lifetime limited warranty and a 10-year limited warranty for against wind damage up to 90 miles per hour. Given that I am now ancient, this should take care of us.
The roofing crew is now about halfway through the installation. It looks great!
