Beauty Websites for Normal People

Do you have a new year’s resolution to perk up your beauty regimen or give yourself the ultimate makeover? If this is the year you’re making your comeback, I’ve scoured the web for some great beauty websites to get you started.

I’m such a Walmart girl myself. I’m all about Maybelline and store brands. But whether you’re like me or go for more upper end products, there’s something for you.

Please share your favorites sites and resources in the comments!

Strawberry.net Beauty Site

Strawberry.net is the #1 seller of discounted skincare, makeup, cosmetics, and fragrances in the world. And they have free shipping anywhere in the world.

The have a huge array of brands. In makeup there carry Max Factor and L’Oreal as well as Bare Escentuals and Mac. They have hundreds of fragrances, for both men and women.

The Beauty Brains

The Beauty Brains beauty websites

Belinda, one of my college age daughters, turned me to a great beauty site, The Beauty Brains. They are a group of cosmetic scientists who attempt to weed out false advertising claims from real results. You can directly ask questions of the experts or join their community forum to discuss beauty issues.

Bath and Body Works

Bath & Body Works beauty site

I know it’s a gimmick! I know it’s just a sales technique! But whenever I am lured into this store — based on smell alone — I can’t help but by multiples just so I can get the special daily deal. The products in this store are so yummy, they are irresistible. And you can get an entire family of products (soap, lotion, body spray) all in the same flavor scent.

Watch for their special holiday lines, they are my favorite. I have a lotion/spray set called Twisted Peppermint that smells just like candy canes. I save and wear all through December every year. They also have delicious scents like Vanilla Bean Noel and Winter Candy Apple.

The Hair Styler

The Hair Styler beauty website

How many times have you seen a totally darling hair style, clipped it out, and rushed to your salon for the perfect haircut — only to find that normal 45-year-old women with Rachel McAdam’s haircut, sadly don’t look like Rachel McAdams?

Before you make a big hair faux pax (and I don’t mean Farrah), click on over to The Hair Styler. For less than you would spend on a cheap haircut at a national chain, you can try hairstyles before you buy. Upload a picture of your gorgeous face, and apply all sorts of styles and colors. See what you will look like with haircut you’re considering. You might be really surprised at what looks good — and what doesn’t.

[Clairol has a free Try It On Studio that’s fun, but not nearly as sophisticated.]

Drugstore.com beauty website
U-G-L-Y, you ain’t got no alibi, you’re ugly. Hey, hey, you’re ugly.

Someone tell the CEO of this horrendous looking site to drop a couple hundred bucks and get a serious site redo. Looks aside, Drugstore.com some good points. It has most anything you can imagine, the prices are good, and shipping is free on orders of only $25.

I have purchased from them multiple times over the years either because they have a great special running or because they have a product I like, but can’t seem to find locally. A number of times, for example, the local stores have stopped stocking a particular deodorant that someone in my family likes. I can’t find it anywhere — except Drugstore. com. It’s also much easier to find less common medical products or vitamins with a simple web search than traipsing all over town.

Beauty & Style at iVillage

iVillage beauty site
Beauty & Style (or is it BS?) at iVillage is chock full of celebrity gossip — that bores me silly. Unlike apparently most of the universe, I don’t give a hoot(ers?) what Sammi or Snooki wear. OK, I have no idea who Sammi and Snooki are. And who names a kid Snooki, anyway?

But if you can trawl through all the bilge (and another fairly ugly site), there’s some good information hiding in there. Wonder about lash extensions? You’ve got it. Looking for a bow bag in your price range? It’s there, too. Want to see a host of member makeovers? That’s my favorite part of all — although sometimes I think the befores looks better than the afters!

So get our your waders and head on over.

Love it, love it, love it!

Most beauty websites are totally off-putting because they are geared to…who knows who? To some kind of hollywood wannabes, not real people.

These sites actually have some useful stuff. My favorite is the BeautyBrians site. Great stuff. Like Consumer Reports for makeup!

Have alsays wantred to find the site just like the hair styler one. Thanks! The only thing left is to choose the right hair style and color. Let’s make an experiment!

Glad it was helpful, Katty. I’ve actually found it really helpful to keep from making a really bad hair mistake.

I especially like the site about hair styles and hair cuts! I do think that all women should have healthy hair and good haircuts. I want to make something with my hair – but I’m a bit afraid as I have long hair and it’s a real deed to agree to cut it.

This is one of my favorite fashion and beauty sites, I go there when looking for fashion inspiration, a new hairstyle to try or just to get tips 🙂

Hi Alison, these are some great treasure hunts! I absolutely love the strawberry and purple combo of the first site. I also keep digging the net to find great blogs on styling and makeover. Nice post. Keep updating.
